Spectacular, large scale street
productions with giant puppets,
stilt walkers, dancers, and musicians
"Pagans
or Christians" - the first in its
kind large scale ’walking’ street theatre performance
being produced for the occasion of the millennium in year
2000 with the aim to give the Budapest Spring Festival
a very special start. The performance was in reality a
very special and unique one, with its more than 300 actors,
musicians, stilt walkers and dancers who performed the
production all along Andrassy út in Budapest. Speciality
of the performance, besides having an enormous number
of participants, was that it also had a very strong spiritual
background by having a 40 member Christian choir on the
’Christian side’ and 12 real shamans on the ’pagan side’.
Creators of the performance were: Director: István Somogyi,
with the help of János Pályi in terms of giant puppets
and stilt walkers, Designer: Szilard Boraros from Prague
and Erzsebet Turi, music by: Balazs Szokolay Dongo and
Robert Kerenyi ’Szigony’, choreography by: Gábor Mihályi.
’Walk of Light’
- a giant walking performance for the turn of the millennium
on the eve of the 31st of December 2000. At exactly midnight
with the lead of our giant puppets people of Budapest
entered the new millennium by stepping over the Time Gate.
